ARchived 2019-2020
Meetings & Projects

So plan for year has changed...
But we can still learn
and make a difference
as reynolds leadership class...

All in-class instruction suspended (March 17th, 2020)
Under the direction of the Provincial Health Officer, the Minister of Education has suspended in-class instruction in all schools until further notice.
Greater Victoria School District Website for updates: www.sd61.bc.ca/
Leadership students, please check your sd61learn account emails for course information during this time through Google Classroom.

ACts of Kindness

Picture

We understand it will be challenging to engage in community volunteering activities right now, so we are going to suggest a modified idea. Instead of volunteer hours in the community, we are shifting to Acts of Kindness supporting others from afar during this time and lifting spirits.
We know that any Act of Kindness is priceless right now, but for the purposes of this course credit, we’re going to say that any Act of Kindness you perform is worth a minimum of 30 minutes towards your service time, unless it takes longer than that to create and perform, in which case it counts for however long it took.
Just add a list of accumulating acts of kindness into your service log (no time required). Please consider sharing some of the things you do with a photo uploaded to the stream in Google to help inspire others!

Possible Ideas: (more added as they come up in Google Classroom so check regularly)

  • Send a letter, card or postcard to someone who needs a lift
  • Drop off hand-made encouragement messages on doorsteps around your neighbourhood
  • Put hearts in your window to be part of the 'Spread the love, not the germs' initiative pledging support to those essential workers on the front lines helping to make a difference in this pandemic
  • At 7:00 pm, take part in noise making with banging pots & pans in the evening to support our health care workers
  • Create a care package (germ free) to leave on someone’s doorstep
  • Do some yard work for your family or a neighbour (get some fresh air at the same time!)
  • Offer online tutoring in a subject you are good at for students at school
  • Create a Facebook Page (or some other social media format) to share fun jokes/memes, musical numbers, skits, cooking lessons—whatever your talent is! Maybe one person could initiate and others could add to it…
  • Create a Parody for the Coronavirus… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5azNpTwVk8
  • Read to younger kids over the phone (someone you usually babysit for?)
Remember, the most important thing however is to remember that the Covid-19 virus is a contagion. Please consult with your parents on your ideas and take every precaution to ensure you are only spreading kindness between yourself and others. Avoid physical contact (2m+ distance). Wash your hands using the World Health Organization protocol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IisgnbMfKvI and any items you might leave at a home should be left on the door step without touching anything please.

Non-profit here in Victoria called Threshold Housing Society, providing safe housing, support services, and community to at-risk youth.

In the fall, our mission is to spread awareness of the work we do and why we do it through our campaign called Shine a Light on Youth Homelessness. In our region, on any given night there are over 150 youth experiencing homelessness and this does not include the youth that are currently living in unsafe homes or couch surfing.

Through our campaign, we are selling Silk Road Tea Boxes and hosting a Winter Carnival in Bastion Square on November 30th to raise funds to continue being able to do the work we do. We are looking for volunteers.
